Movies have always played an important part in my life. There were a few disruptions when i was a child, and the two things I clung to, and liked to disappear into, were movies and books. You can always escape with a book or a film, and you can easily create any world you want in your head.  Perhaps this is why I favour Sci-fi and Fantasy over any other genre in the film industry, they‘re the easiest to escape into. I’ve loved films such as Star Wars since I was little, and still to this day find the originals better than the questionable new ones, although you can’t beat the CGI enhanced lightsaber battles. That’s not to say over the years I’ve not fallen in love with others too, Gangsters and Thrillers are now firm favourites.

I’m particularly fascinated with the world of film, the landscapes and worlds you can create. Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings is one of the most epic films I’ve ever seen, he created a whole world from the pages of Tolkien’s books. This sort of thing is amazing to me, I love the idea of other worlds and different creatures, the sort of things you can only see and create in films. Although the story is also incredibly important to me, a good landscape and visual effects usually grab my attention most.  I get totally sucked in and lost in these places, and the effects of the film stay with me long after I’ve seen them. It’s the same story with TV, programmes such as Doctor Who, Lost, Band of Brothers, Stargate, CSI:NY and even comedies like Friends, How I Met Your Mother and the Big Bang Theory.  I love to get stuck into a good film or TV show, it’s the perfect form of escapism, and I particularly like ones that you have to concentrate on, have a good storyline and use clever  ideas to map out their episodes.

I’ve never been particularly fond of Rom-Com’s, although I can watch them. I prefer action films, fast paced and attention grabbing. It’s also good if a film makes you think, if it’s somewhat intellectual. As I’ve grown older, I’ve found myself wanting to delve more into the film industry, read up on reviews and what other people think. I now have quite a large selection of Total Film Empire and SFX magazines sitting on my shelf next to my respectable comic book collection. Having studied Media Print and Publishing at college, my interest in Journalism begun, it’s only recently I’ve realised I could combine this with my love of films. It would be a dream come true to work for one of these magazines in some way, although at the moment I’m more of a geek with a dream, than a ready for publishing journalist!

This blog will mostly be my thoughts on films, comics and other such geeky things, although there will be some parts of my life thrown in the mix too. Right now I’m just a 20 year old girl, involved in a 20 year old love affair with film, and I want to write about it.
